INTRODUCTION
This is an introductory course on Ion Trap GC/MS for the novice user. This course covers basic theory and practices required for understanding and successfully operating Ion Trap GC/MS systems.

- Ion Trap GC/MS Hardware - GC Inlet, Columns, MS
- MS Sample Introduction Techniques
- Introduction to MS Workstation Software
- Introduction to Advanced Ion Trap MS Techniques - Selected Ion Storage, Chemical Ionization and MS/MS
- Ion Trap Maintenance procedure and Troubleshooting
Practical Work
- Setting up the Ion Trap Ms and initial adjustments Tuning the instrument for routine analysis
- Method development, sample injection and analysis
- Qualitative Procedures - identification of compounds by library search, creation of spectral lists and compound tables
- Quantitative Procedure - multi-level calibration and analysis of unknown samples
- Ion Trap advanced techniques - SIS, CI and MS/MS
- Basic Ms maintenance procedures
Prerequisites
Basic chemistry background with some analytical experience.
Familiarity with computers and Microsoft Windows XP operating system. A good background in GAS Chromatography and Capillary GC techniques is a must.
